Hornets sting Killer Bees in KOH Pee Wee Final! The Hornets and Killer Bees were two unlikely finalists in the 2011 KOH Pee Wee Final, but it’s all about playing well at the right time. In the cross over the Hornets raised their game and defeated the #1 seed Stingers and the Killer Bees took care of the #2 seed Buzzers. These two teams had earned the opportunity to play for the championship with the winner being crowned the 2011 KOH Pee Wee Champion and hoist the Stanley Cup, pictured above on loan to KOH. Period one started like any other championship game, a lot of energy in front of a packed house. Two minutes in, the Killer Bees struck first with Sean Wilkinson roofing a nice shot after cutting through the slot. About 3 minutes later the Hornets answered with Andrew Clifford going end to end and ripping a low shot that sneaks by the goalie. A couple minutes later, with a Hornets 2 on 1 developing, Andrew Clifford ripped one over the goalie’s shoulder, giving the Hornets a 2 – 1 lead heading into the 2nd period, Allie Clifford with the assist. Clifford to Clifford. Period two started out like period one ended; with the Hornets striking again less then a minute into the period. Scramble in front leads to a cross crease pass to a top shelf rip by Brendan McAuley with assists to Andrew Clifford and Drew Van Huesen. Hornets up 3 – 1. A minute later the Killer Bees answered. After a blast from the point hit the crossbar, Rick Andrews knocked in the rebound, assist to Sean Wilkinson. Killer Bees close the gap to 3 – 2. But at the 11:12 mark, the Hornets go back up by two. After a turnover in the slot, Nate Kummu deked and then slipped in the puck, assists to Brennan Alheim and Brendan McAuley. With time starting to run out of the period (2:27), Zack Mouzzakes scored on a penalty shot to give the Hornets a commanding 5 – 2 lead. Period three continued to be the Andrew Clifford show, with Clifford completing the hat trick at the 8:26 mark on a nice 1 on 1 move on the goalie, burying the puck in the lower corner, Zack Mouzzakes with the assist. Less then 20 seconds later it was Clifford to Clifford, again. Andrew with a laser and Allie with an assist, 7 – 2 Hornets. Sean Wilkinson answered for the Killer Bees with a high slot snipe making the score 7 – 3. However, Andrew Clifford answered again with a cannon from the point to close out the scoring, Zack Mouzzakes with the assist. Congrats to the Hornets, 2011 KOH Pee Wee Champs. 8 – 3, final score.
