Urchins Claim Squirt Championship! Defeat Scorpions in King of the Hill Championship !

August 30, 2007 Clifton Park, NY (All Wire Services)
Undefeated and untied, a blemish free KOH season was in sight for the Scorpions, a feat rarely accomplished in the storied history of the King of the Hill. Many have tried, but few have succeeded in dodging the boneyard of summer hockey. Could this juggernaut be stopped?
Enter the Urchins; #2 seed, who all summer have displayed exceptional firepower, the ability to score at a moments notice. Could they be the one, do they have what it takes? A nice school of veteran Squirts and up and coming Mites, could they be KING?
Both teams came out flying, a capacity crowd on hand. The Urchins struck first with a wrister from Jake Fauler, assist to Andrew Jackson. Not to be denied, the Scorpions answered right back with a sweet goal from Andrew McGovern, helped by Chris Haas a mere 30 seconds later. Game ON! Just to show they were not going away, the Urchins's Jake Bloem sniped with assists to Adam MacKay and Danny Barlok to close out an exciting 1st period, Urchins 2 - Scorpions 1.
The 2nd period started much like the first, end to end action, goalies coming up HUGE (sorry Billy). At the 3:50 mark, Kevin Stoya took the puck end to end to tie the game 2 - 2, the Scorpions showing why they were the big Fish. But the Urchins were not going away. Not to be outdone, Andrew Jackson went coast to coast and surprised the goalie, the puck sliding into the net from a tough angle with only 20 seconds remaining 2nd period. Horn. Urchins 3 - Scoprions 2
At the 9:05 mark, Chris Haas scored, with an assist from Andrew McGovern to bring the Scorpions even at 3 - 3. Clearly, anybody's game! With just over 2 minutes to play, Jake Bloem scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Brady Campbell to give the Urchins a 4 -3 lead. The pace quickened and there was desperation by both teams in the air. Would the clock be the Scorpions worst enemy? With just less then a minute to go in the game, Jake Fauler scored his 2nd goal of the game to ice the championship game for the Urchins.
Congratulations to both teams for a spirited season and final game!
