Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Hockey India’s long-awaited national season is set to resume in October this year after the pandemic interrupted the national schedule in March due to the second wave of COVID-19.
The season will resume with the 1st National Hockey India Junior Boys Academy 2021 to be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. This coveted championship will take place from October 4 to 13, 2021.
The 1st National Junior Boys Academy of Hockey India 2021 will also be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from October 18-27, 2021.
Notably, the state capital of Madhya Pradesh is known as the breeding ground for hockey.
Although resuming the national calendar after the euphoric success of India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has been a top priority for Hockey India, the Federation has asked host state member units and participating teams to take strict precautions and apply all covid protocols established by the Home Office (MHA) and respective state governments, as well as Hockey India’s strong guidelines for hosting national events.
Meanwhile, the 1st National Interdepartmental Junior Girls Hockey India 2021 Championship scheduled for October this year will be held in the nation’s capital.
The 11th Hockey India 2021 National Junior Girls Championship will be held in Simdega, Jharkhand in October 2021, while the 11th Hockey India 2021 National Junior Men Championship is also scheduled for October in Telangana. The 11th National Senior Women’s Hockey India Championship 2021 is tentatively scheduled to be held in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh in October.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the resumption of the Hockey India National Championships, President Gyanendro Ningombam said: “There is a lot of euphoria following the success of the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams at the Tokyo Olympics and we wanted to make sure that this enthusiasm translates into the playing field. With this intention, we announce the resumption of the national calendar of Hockey India. We had to stop abruptly in March of this year due to the increase in cases across the country, but with things improving on the covid front, we felt it was safe to pick up depending on covid guidelines. “
