The cast of Stars on Ice was present for a Elton John concert on Tuesday night, and someone must have tipped off the music legend.
In Greensboro, North Carolina, John shouted Nathan Chen for using the musician’s songs, including “Rocket Man”, in his free skating to win the Olympics.
“It took on new meaning when I watched the Winter Olympics this year,” John said at the concert in a video posted by his Olympic teammate. Madison Chock. “Professionalism, athleticism, just amazing. I was so honored that he chose my song.
After Chen won gold in Beijing, John tweeted his congratulations.
“It’s crazy to think he even knows I exist,” Chen said on “Access Hollywood” in February.
Chen first used an Elton John medley in 2019 after one of his choreographers, Marie-France Dubreuilsaw the movie “Rocketman” and felt she could create a strong program for him using his music.
“I love listening to Elton John,” Chen said in 2019. “I don’t feel like I’m playing his character. … [The program] is a way for me to appreciate his music and allow other people to enjoy it too.
Chen originally had a different free program for the Olympic season, then returned to Elton John’s mix in December.
