Fall CanSkate registration opens at Meadow Park Sports Center

Registration opens for Fall CanSkate at the Meadow Park Sports Center for Sea to Sky youth

Registration is now open for CanSkate classes this fall at Meadow Park Sports Center.

Registrations have been open since August 7th and although CanSkate Coordinator Anita Fawcett has said everything is going well, there are still more spots available.

CanSkate is the basic level of skating lessons, which can help children move from just walking on ice to becoming skaters skilled enough to move on to other winter sports like hockey and figure skating.

The Whistler CanSkate program lasts 10 weeks from September 28 to December 9 with sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Each 45 minute session involves dividing children into groups and moving to different stations where they learn a different skill every 10 minutes.

Throughout the 10 week program, children will learn different skills depending on their level of skating, from basic glide and balance to crossovers and backward skating.

As registrations are expected to fill up, Fawcett is still looking for around eight more volunteers to be program assistants and help paid coaches on the ice with skill demonstrations and take the kids through each circuit.

For more information on registration, the skating club or how to become a volunteer, visit Whistlerskatingclub.ca or email [email protected]
