Five fun things to do on Water Street in downtown Henderson

There’s a lot going on in downtown Henderson. The historic Water Street district has worked hard to become a major destination, now home to an array of food and drink options as well as other fun activities. In addition to permanent attractions, head to Water Street Plaza for festivals and special events, such as Golden Knights viewing nights and the recent Pacific Islander Festival & Ho’olaule’a. Here are a few more of our Water Street favorites.

To eat: Biscuits and Bourbon

With so many delicious restaurants now inhabiting Water Street, it’s hard to pick a favorite. (Shouts to Juan’s Flaming Fajitas & Cantina and Chef Flemming’s BakeShop!) At Biscuits and Bourbon, the revitalization of Water Street is built into the mission. Plus, the elevated southern menu is simply delicious. Try the bennie cookies on the brunch menu, with fried chicken, tri-slices or pork belly. Pork rinds, country poutine, hot Nashville watermelon and a wide selection of smoked meats complement the dinner menu. 109 S. Water Street, 702-986-0307, bandbonwater.com.

To play: Lifeguard arena

Southern Nevada’s new AHL team may be waiting for their Henderson arena to open next spring, but this official Henderson Silver Knights training facility is open and ready for skaters. With two ice sheets, the site offers open skates, skate rentals and beginner lessons, as well as hockey and figure skating programs. Event planners can even organize parties there. And be sure to take a tour of the livery to stock up on Silver Knights gear. 222 S. Water Street, 725-201-3032, lifeguardarena.com.

To drink: Lovelady Brewing Company

Lovelady Brewing Company

No one is thirsty on Water Street. With Hardway 8, Public Works Coffee Bar, Sticks Tavern, multiple casinos and more along the street, there is something in a drink or mug for everyone. For many, this place is the inviting tap room of the Lovelady. The family business has become known for its beer, from the 9th Island Pineapple Sour to the double IPA HopAtomic and the best-selling Love Juice Hazy IPA. The 1,400 square foot faucet room features 16 handles, bar sets and a dog friendly patio. 20 S. Water Street, 702-564-3030, loveladybrewing.com.

See: City Lights Art Gallery

Dedicated to promoting local art and arts education, this Water Street neighborhood gallery provides a rewarding counterpoint to the most indulgent attractions in downtown Henderson. The art on display is shot quarterly, so there is always something new to see from the stable of local member artists. In addition, City Lights hosts semi-annual jury shows, monthly artist spotlights, classes and workshops, open studio time, volunteer artists in service, offers college scholarships to local high school art students, and owns even a gift shop. 3, rue de l’Armée de l’Est, 702-260-0300, citylightsartgallery.com.

Decorate: Vintage downtown barbershop and shaving salon

A good hair salon is not just a place to get a haircut; it is an old-fashioned gathering place, on the edge of the community center. Native Las Vegan Jorge Reyes is the owner and operator of this store. In 2012, at the age of 18, he used the proceeds of his hairstyle to take over one of the oldest barbershops in southern Nevada, which dates back to 1956. Be part of a timeless local tradition on Water Street and leave more beautiful than When you arrived. 37 S. Water Street, 702-564-2343, facebook.com/downtownvintagehenderson.
