The Oilers prospect continues to post big numbers and receive plenty of plaudits for his offensive production to start the 2022-23 OHL season with the North Bay Battalion.
The 19-year-old was named OHL Player of the Week after posting four goals, two assists and a +6 plus/minus in a perfect three-game winning week for the Battalion that extended its winning streak five games and a record 10-4-0 (second in the OHL Eastern Conference).
Petrov played a vital role in North Bay’s strong start by leading the battalion in scoring with eight goals and 12 assists in 14 games. The Russian is currently on track with an 11-game point streak after scoring in Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Erie Otters in the third game in a row.
On Friday night, Petrov added two goals in a 5-1 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs after contributing a goal and two assists in a 9-3 bombardment against the Niagara IceDogs the previous night.
The Oilers selected Petrov in the sixth round, 180th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft before signing the product from Moscow, Russia to a three-year entry-level NHL contract last April. Petrov was the Battalion’s first overall pick in the 2020 CHL Import Draft and recorded 40 goals, 50 assists and 90 points last season before helping lead North Bay to the playoffs to a championship berth. the Eastern Conference.
