Ice Rentals at Lockwood Arena in Ogdensburg Begin This Weekend | County of Saint-Laurent

OGDENSBURG – The Ogdensburg Department of Public Works (DPW) has been busy installing ice this week at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center as it prepares for its first rental this weekend.

The first ice rental of the year is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3, according to recreation director Mackenzie Cole, who said DPW staff have been working diligently to prepare the ice for the upcoming winter season in the facility located at 141 West River Street.

“I am very excited to bring down the ice and start the new season. I would like to thank the staff at DPW for all the hard and wonderful work they put into making this year a success, ”said Cole.

The 2021-2022 winter season is expected to be much busier at Lockwood Arena, mainly because more stringent COVID-19 protocols have been lifted. These previous directives reduced offerings at the arena in 2020-2021. There was no rock and skate or birthday parties, and public skating was extremely limited in size.

“We had just over 650 rentals for ice last season,” Cole said, adding “at the moment we are following New York State and CDC COVID protocols. This is subject to change.

Cole said if people want to rent ice cream this season, they’ll need to fill out a form found at www.ogdensburg.org and they can return the forms to his office at Town Hall in Room 10 with their payments, check or cash. Rental fees are always per groups and whether they are residents and non-residents.

The cost of one hour of ice time for groups of young residents is $ 71.50; groups of non-resident youth is $ 96.50; adult resident groups will be $ 81.50; and groups of non-resident adults will be charged $ 106.50 per hour. Off-peak hours from Monday to Friday before 3 p.m., excluding statutory holidays and school vacations, will be $ 60.

Special events such as birthday parties cost $ 71.50 an hour. Cole said that while birthday parties weren’t offered last winter, they will take place this winter for as long as they’re allowed to.

“We will also be having birthday parties, but they will have to follow COVID guidelines,” she said.

Public skating will take place and will be posted on the “Ogdensburg City Recreation” Facebook page. If you have any questions, contact Cole at (315) 393-1980.
