Pita Pit opens in Erie PA, Lucky’s hosts Indian restaurant, Sammy’s has barbecue

The local franchise of Pita Pit, 6803 Peach St., is finally open and busy, owner John Paolella said when contacted Friday at lunchtime. They are open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., except Sunday, when they close at 9 p.m.

Paolella said on Facebook that the restaurant’s official opening took place on September 27. “It’s been a long process and a ton of work but I’m here,” he wrote, adding that he could use a few more staff. The same could be said for almost any restaurant in the area.

Pita Pit offers healthy wraps and pita sandwiches designed to be healthy. The store is located between Starbucks and Sports Clips on Upper Peach Street. For more information visit pitapitusa.com.

Also recently opened is Kababmaster, inside Lucky’s Food Mart at 701 State St. Owner Suresh Sharma said he cooks and serves authentic Indian food in a corner kitchen inside the Food Mart. The Department of Health approved its license on September 24.

The restaurant is open daily, 11am to 8pm, and every day it focuses on food from a different region of India, so don’t expect to get the same on every visit.

“It’s very hard, but really sinful,” Sharma said with a laugh.

Lakeside Sammy's in Edinboro changed its name and menu at the end of August. Sammy's Smokehouse now serves barbecue in addition to its hot dogs and custard.

In case you missed it, in August, Sammy’s smoking room, 222 W. Plum St., Edinboro, changed its name and adopted a barbecue-themed menu consisting of breast, chicken, pork, ribs and turkey. Their accompaniments are typical dishes of the soul, including oatmeal, baked beans, black-eyed peas, collard greens, mashed potatoes, macaroni salad, and macaroni and cheese. They still serve hot dogs and custard, which they opened with earlier last summer. They are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sammy’s currently collects Thanksgiving canned goods and non-perishables for the Edinboro pantry. Two cans get you $ 5 off your meal at Sammy’s. They are also planning a Trunk-or-Treat for October 31st. For more information on both, visit www.facebook.com/SammysSmokehouse.
