Ponoka keeps municipal facilities open with new restrictions

All youth programs and swimming lessons, swim club and lane swimming will continue at the Aquaplex. Public swimming will be temporarily canceled as of Monday, September 20.

Adult fitness classes will continue for participants who check in at reception before class begins and provide proof of vaccination, a negative, privately paid COVID-19 test result received within 72 hours prior to class. to go to the swimming pool or a medical exemption document.

Private adult swimming lessons are available, as well as private pool rentals at a discounted rate of $ 23 per hour. Citizens can register and pay for Aquaplex private reservations online by visiting the City’s website at www.ponoka.ca. Click on “Aquaplex” under the “Recreation” tab of the main menu. Then click on “Register for courses, lessons and pool rental” or click on here. You can also contact the Ponoka Aquaplex at (403) 783-0131 to arrange private reservations. Private bookings are limited to people from the same household.

During your visit to the Aquaplex:

 Swimmers are requested not to arrive more than five minutes before the scheduled time;

 Observe one-way traffic measures and physical distancing throughout the installation;

 Masks must be worn except in the water;

 Changing rooms and access to lockers will be available before using the swimming pools; and

 Swimmers should take a soapy shower on the pool deck before entering the pools.

Ponoka Arena Complex

Youth hockey, figure skating and ringette will continue at the arena. Public skating will be temporarily canceled starting Monday, September 20. Adult sports user groups will be able to continue using arena ice with proof of vaccination, negative COVID-19 test result and paid privately received within 72 hours of attending arena , or a medical exemption document. The arena’s small skating rink is open to private reservations at a reduced rate of $ 63 per hour by calling (403) 783-0131. Adult users must be in the same household to share a private reservation.

Ponoka Civic Center

Citizens are encouraged to do business with the City online or by phone whenever possible. Bill payments can be made online through your bank, by mail, by credit card using the online credit card payment slip available at www.ponoka.ca or by calling City Hall at 403-783 -4431. Bill payments can also be placed in the drop box located just inside the west side doors of the Ponoka Civic Center at 5604-50 Street.

City council meetings will again be held online. Members of the public are encouraged to observe Board meetings electronically by registering by noon on the day of the meeting by calling 403-783-4431 during office hours Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm. will receive details on how to observe the meeting by phone or online audio link.

Outdoor facilities

All outdoor recreation facilities remain open to the public. Local sports groups, families and individuals can continue to access soccer fields and ball fields. Hamilton’s skate park and all of Ponoka’s other parks, trails and playgrounds are also accessible to citizens.

Protect yourself and others

The citizens of Ponoka are encouraged to protect themselves and others from the spread of COVID-19 by doing the following:

 Get vaccinated as soon as possible;

 Use good hygiene practices, such as frequent hand washing or hand disinfection;

 Cover coughs and sneezes;

 Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands;

 Stay at least two meters away from other people who are not part of your cohort or who live in your home;

 Wear a mask in public; and

 Stay home if you are not feeling well.
