Mohali, October 21: RoundGlass Punjab Hockey Academy put on a magnificent show to finish third at Hockey India’s very first 2021 Sub-Junior Men Academy National Championship. The team won their bronze medal playoffs against SGPC Hockey Academy on October 13 by a 1 margin, registering a podium spot in their first appearance at a national level tournament.
Scoring a total of 36 goals in five games, RoundGlass Punjab Hockey Academy advanced to the knockout stages thanks to comprehensive wins over Citizen Hockey XI (19-0) and Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy (6-0) in the group stage. The tournament brought together 24 teams from across India, showcasing the country’s top talent at the sub-junior age group level.
Playing their inspiring brand of hockey, the team continued their strong race to defeat Sports Authority of India Academy 4-1 in the quarterfinals. The semi-final saw the team battle high performance center Odisha Naval Tata (5-2). However, the courage and determination of RoundGlass Punjab Hockey Academy took hold as the team came back strong to claim victory in the playoffs for third place.
