The skating club has a history of excellence

For the editor,

When I answered questions for the article [Fulfilling a dream and making a community proud, published March 29], I guess I was a little excited and I forgot to mention that Melanie Walter was the first solo WOMAN I coached who earned an Ontario All-Star spot since Janine Garbutt. I never intended to offend anyone. Accomplishments from those before her in my 40s, who achieved and earned provincial spots, included dancers and a male skater. I apologize if this bothers anyone. The dancers we produced from the Minden Skating Club during my time absolutely made us proud. Every athlete is a treasure and I’m so lucky to have had memories with them. There were actually two women coached by another coach who made provincials. Members of the skating club are definitely making their mark in the world of figure skating.

Editor’s note: In my transcript of Jane’s text message, I failed to include the “woman” skater and any omission was due to my negligence and not hers.
