Victoria Royals announce hockey operations staff for upcoming season – Victoria Royals


The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce their Hockey Operations staff for the 2022-23 season.

Dan Price enters third season as Royals Managing Director and Alternate Governor and his sixth season as The head coach. Price is entering his seventh campaign with the team, having joined the organization in 2016 as an assistant coach.

J.F. Best enters second year as Royals Deputy General Director and this season he will also step down as associate coach to become the new Director of Player Personnel and Player Development. Best is entering his sixth season with the Royals. He first joined the team as an assistant coach in 2017.

Ed Fowlerwho has served as director of player personnel for the Victoria Royals since 2019 and has been on the scouting staff since 2013 as a regional scout and senior regional scout, announced his retirement.

We cannot say enough about the quality of Ed and the huge contribution he has made to the organization of the Royals. He left a legacy here and his positive impact will be felt for years to come,” said general manager and head coach Dan Price. “Ed is a trusted advisor and a class player, and I know I speak on behalf of the players and staff when I say he was also a great mentor and a true example of what it means to be a Victoria Royal. We will miss our daily interactions with him, but of course we are also very happy for him and wish him all the best for the future JF will take up the mantle and I know he will do a great job at the head of the department Player Personnel and Player Development.

Dara Festinger was promoted to Senior Manager, Hockey Operations and Player Personneland Dave Prestage will become the Manager, Hockey Research and Data Analytics.

Stu MacGregor, Scott Fukami, Garry Pochipinski and Kalen Wright everyone returns to their role as Senior Regional Scouts.

Morgan Klimchuk joins the Royals as Coach’s Assistant. Klimchuk spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach with Edge School U15 Prep in the CSSHL. Born in Regina, SK, and raised in Calgary, AB, Klimchuk is a WHL alumnus and was a first-round pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. His professional playing career spanned five seasons between the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators.

Jeff Compton comes back as one Coach’s Assistant, specializing in skills and strength and conditioning. Former pupil of the royal family Ralph Jarratwho was drafted by Victoria in the 2013 WHL Prospects Draft, now returns to the organization as a staff member, joining Klimchuk and Compton as Coach’s Assistant.

Lynden Sammartino continues in its role as goalkeeper coach and will broaden its scope by adding the post of Manager, Goaltender Development to his homework. Kai McDonald also returns as Goalkeeper Advisorwhile Nic Renyardwho assisted the coaching staff for part of the 2021-22 season, is entering his first full season as a Player Development and Special Projects Coach.

Neighborhood JT returns for a fourth season; his second as Royals Sports Performance Director. Kurtis Freter is also back in Victoria and will take on more responsibilities as Senior Assistant, Athletic Performance.

Return to guide the medical team is Medical Director, Dr Michael Conrad. The player support team will once again be led by Educational consultant, Tammy Renyard; Ticket Coordinators, Alicia Milkowski and Rae Robirtis; and Safety binding, Ross Smith.
