What’s open, closed for Veterans Day 2021 in San Diego County – NBC 7 San Diego


San Diego City and County offices and departments will close on Veterans Day Thursday.

Here’s a look at what will be closed and open in the region for this holiday:


  • All the administrative offices of the city and the department
  • The city’s leisure centers
  • All public buildings in Balboa Park will be closed, including the Balboa Park Activity Center, Botanical Building, Casa del Prado, Municipal Gymnasium and War Memorial Building. The city recommends checking the various museums and attractions for their vacation schedules
  • City tanks which are not Miramar, Murray and San Vicente will be closed
  • Appointments at the Virtual Counter of the Department of Development Services and Inspection Services will be closed. The city says all other online services including submitting new project requests, resubmissions and payments will be available by visiting sandiego.gov/DSD
  • All libraries will be closed as well as the book pick-up service
  • The swimming pools of the city
  • District offices for open space assessment and maintenance
  • The testing center, employment information and background / fingerprint offices within the personnel department
  • The Family justice center. People in need of help related to domestic violence should call 911 and / or the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-385-4657


  • Torrey Pines, Mission Bay and Balboa Park golf course will be open at their usual hours.
  • All city skate parks and open space trails will be open.
  • The Miramar, Murray and San Vicente reservoirs will be open from half an hour before sunrise until sunset. Lake Chollas will be open from 6.30am until half an hour before sunset.

Car park

Car park meters, time restrictions for on-street parking, yellow areas, and posted street sweeping routes within the City of San Diego will not apply. All other parking infractions will apply. Parking rules on San Diego Harbor property and in different cities may vary, please read posted signage.

Waste collection and disposal

There will be no delay in household waste, recyclables and garden waste support for clients served by the City’s Environment Department. The scheduled collection will take place on Thursday, November 11. Residents who are not served by the City’s Environmental Services Department should check with their waste hauler for statutory holiday service schedules.

Police and firefighters

San Diego Police and San Diego Fire Department emergency crews are unaffected by the vacation closings.
